US official visits Tokyo, vows to pursue North Korea denuclearization

Experts say U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s choice in words will matter for any future nuclear negotiations

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Washington will work towards the “denuclearization of North Korea” alongside American allies during a meeting with Japan’s foreign minister on Tuesday.

Blinken’s comment is in line with other remarks Washington made last week, when Japan, Australia, India and the U.S. met in an informal strategic forum on March 12 and reaffirmed their “commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions” in a joint statement.
