Seoul to launch English website to promote ‘balanced discourse’ on North Korea

Unification ministry budgets $500,000 for content platform modeled after 38 North

South Korea’s unification ministry is planning to invest nearly $500,000 to develop an English-language website focusing on North Korea and inter-Korean relations, according to a notice published last week.

The notice posted by the ministry on March 5 called for proposals from vendors who can build and manage the website on a budget of around 558 million won ($491,000), paid over three years until 2023. The “web journal” is expected to “introduce domestic scholars’ research on North Korea and inter-Korean relations to the international community,” the ministry’s proposal stated.
