Antony Blinken, vocal critic of Trump’s DPRK policy, named US secretary of state

Biden is expected to formally announce Blinken’s appointment on Tuesday, several U.S. news organizations reported

U.S. President-elect Joe Biden tapped longtime foreign policy aide Antony Blinken for secretary of state, several news organizations reported on Sunday. Biden is expected to confirm the appointment with a formal announcement on Tuesday.

Blinken has held foreign policy positions for more than 25 years, serving under former President Barack Obama’s administration as deputy national security advisor from 2013 to 2015 and as deputy secretary of state from 2015 to 2017. His appointment was first reported by Bloomberg News on Sunday, followed by The New York Times and The Washington Post.
