Singaporean given 3 weeks of jail for luxury goods smuggling to North Korea

Chong “Richard” Hock Yen is third to face Singaporean jail for goods smuggling to DPRK, joining Leo Ng and Li Hyon

Singaporean national Chong “Richard” Hock Yen has been sentenced to three weeks of jail for smuggling nearly $580,000 worth of luxury goods to North Korea via his network of companies, a court in Singapore ruled on Oct. 12.

Chong’s sentencing makes him the third in a string of Singaporean jailings for luxury goods smuggling to North Korea, all of which were connected to a high-end Pyongyang department store. An NK Pro exclusive investigation revealed the connection between Bugsae Shop and Singaporean suppliers in 2017.
