Singaporean national Chong “Richard” Hock Yen has been sentenced to three weeks of jail for smuggling nearly $580,000 worth of luxury goods to North Korea via his network of companies, a court in Singapore ruled on Oct. 12.
Chong’s sentencing makes him the third in a string of Singaporean jailings for luxury goods smuggling to North Korea, all of which were connected to a high-end Pyongyang department store. An NK Pro exclusive investigation revealed the connection between Bugsae Shop and Singaporean suppliers in 2017.
