North Korean man gets seven years of prison labor for Russian border assault

Russia doled out its harshest sentence yet for a 2019 incident involving 17 North Korean fisherman

A North Korean fisherman was sentenced to seven years of prison labor for his role in a Sept. 2019 assault of Russian border guards, Russia’s Interfax news agency reported on Friday.

The sentence is the most severe punishment doled out yet in an ongoing trial of 17 North Korean fishermen, who were arrested for allegedly assaulting Russian border officials during a poaching inspection.
