This week, NK News will be publishing a day-to-day round-up of North Korean coverage of Kim Jong Un’s landmark second summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, set to take place Wednesday and Thursday.
With Kim Jong Un still on a train traveling through China, Korean Central Television was silent on Monday regarding his trip and planned summit with Donald Trump.
The TV station began broadcasting at 1500 and didn’t opt to repeat Monday’s bulletins regarding the departure of Kim Jong Un from Pyongyang for the U.S.-DPRK summit or his planned meetings with Vietnam’s leaders.
During last year’s international diplomacy, North Korean TV typically reported on events a day late and for all events outside of Pyongyang relied on still images rather than video.
It is expected to follow the same pattern this time, so with Kim not due to arrive in Vietnam until Tuesday, there was nothing to broadcast on Monday.
Instead, KCTV ran its usual mix of propaganda documentaries, children’s programming, entertainment and news.
Included was a re-run of episode 5 of the “Great Comrade” documentary series from July 2017 (조선기록영화 – 위대한동지 5 – 당을받드는길에인생의영광이있다) and a July 2016 documentary “Our enemy and Baekdu Youth” (조선기록영화 – 우리원수님과백두청춘).
KCTV is due to sign-on at 1500 on Tuesday.
