North Korea will hold nationwide elections to its Supreme People’s Assembly (SPA) in March, the country’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Wednesday.

In a decision reported to have been made public on Tuesday, citizens will vote for deputies to all 687 seats in the 14th SPA for five year terms.

Elections in North Korea typically take place every five years and are not free or fair, with North Koreans voting for one candidate pre-approved by their local party committee.

Minor political factions were previously reported to participate in elections, though their candidates must be approved by the ruling party.
