North Korean Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Kim Il Guk is set to visit Tokyo this week with the permission of the Japanese government, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said on Tuesday.

A DPRK delegation led by Kim is scheduled to attend the 23rd General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), which will be held in the Japanese capital on Wednesday and Thursday.

Japan previously banned the entry of North Korean citizens in unilateral sanctions issued in February 2016 in response to Pyongyang’s test-launch of Kwangmyongsong-4.
