The European Commission’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations on Tuesday warned that a tropical cyclone is forecast to hit North Korea in the coming days.

The weather system is one of three tropical cyclones forecast to hit the region, but Cyclone Soulik which is currently approaching South Korea could travel northwards through the DPRK on Friday and Saturday.

North Korea is much more vulnerable to extreme weather events than its southern neighbor,  where floods cause fatalities, damage crop yields and cause widespread damage to buildings and infrastructure.
