U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday nominated Admiral Harry Harris to be the U.S. Ambassador to South Korea, a diplomatic post which has remained vacant since the U.S. President took office.

Harris is the head of U.S. Pacific Command and was formally set to be the ambassador to Australia before the decision was overturned at the end of April.

The posting comes less than a month before Trump is set to sit down with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to discuss denuclearization, a meeting set for June 12 in Singapore.
