Washington welcomes Kim, Xi meeting but says maximum pressure will continue

State Department says it hopes Beijing will ensure DPRK is serious about credible negotiations

U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday said Washington will continue its maximum pressure campaign on North Korea following talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and DPRK leader Kim Jong Un, though also welcomed the positive developments.

Both Trump and the U.S. Department of State commented on Kim's meeting with Xi, with the U.S. President saying on social media that he was looking forward to meeting the North Korean leader.
