South Korea will order upgrades to its Patriot missile defense system for installation after 2020, according to a statement from Seoul’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).

Seoul will purchase the PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) to upgrade its existing Patriot systems in the country.

The enhancement follows additional upgrades to PAC-3 interceptors from the earlier PAC-2 models which will be deployed in the coming months.

“This procurement plan is aimed at acquiring more PAC-3 precision-guided missiles to respond to North Korea’s ballistic missile threat in a more effective way,” DAPA spokesperson Kang Seok-hwan said, in comments carried by Defense News.
