Deficiencies in North Korean vessels reported by international ports during inspections doubled in January, according to recent data from the Tokyo MOU, reaching their highest levels in a year.
The average amount of deficiencies reported on North Korean vessels was 21.08, with two showing more than 40 deficiencies.
Chong Am, a general cargo ship owned by the DPRK’s Sinam Shipping, was inspected by Chinese authorities in Dalian on January 19 and 20.
The ship was reported to contain 49 deficiencies, including with its emergency systems, fire safety, and life-saving appliances.
