Defector charged with sending rice to North Korean secret police

Prosecutor's office says woman planned to return to DPRK, hoped to avoid punishment for leaving

A North Korean defector has been arrested and charged with sending 130 tons of rice to the DPRK's secret police, the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to NK News on Monday.

The 49-year-old woman, who has only been named as "Mrs A," has been charged with violating the National Security Act in sending 130 tons of rice — worth around KRW 105 million (USD$140,410) — to the DPRK Ministry of State Security (MSS) last year.
