A Taiwanese court on Friday released a local man called Chen on bail following his arrest for shipping oil products to North Korea at sea, in breach of UN resolutions.

Taiwan’s authorities in the city of Kaohsiung launched an inquiry following South Korea’s seizure of the Hong Kong-flagged Lighthouse Winmore, an oil tanker which delivered oil products to a North Korean vessel at sea.

UN Resolution 2375 passed in September prohibits countries from ship to ship cargo transfers, while a subsequent resolution noted the DPRK was “obtaining petroleum illegally” through the practice.

The local prosecutor “discovered after questioning that defendant
