A large extension to North Korea’s embassy in Beijing that was last summer described as a “hotel” for visiting DPRK citizens appears to be nearing completion, January-dated photos obtained by NK News show.

Google Earth satellite imagery of the construction site shows the new building to have been almost completely raised in just six months, between April and October 2017.

But the rapid construction at the facility comes as the U.S. has, amid a “maximum pressure” strategy, encouraged countries to downgrade or sever their diplomatic ties with North Korea to punish Pyongyang for sustained nuclear and missile testing in 2017.
