Japan imposes new unilateral sanctions on 19 North Korean entities

Recent missile test, failure in abduction issue progress cited as motivating factors

Japan will impose additional sanctions on and freeze the assets of 19 North Korean entities in response to Pyongyang's latest launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said on Friday.

The announcement of unilateral sanctions comes over a month after Tokyo designated nine North Korean entities and 26 individuals working in third countries like China, Russia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Libya.
