The Republic of Korea Marine Corps (ROKMC) on Thursday wrapped up a three-day military drill near the western maritime border, in an exercise intended to prepare them for an “abrupt provocation” by North Korea against the South’s frontline islands.

The North-West Islands Defense Command (NWIDC) reportedly “conducted a military exercise defending islands on Baengnyeong island.”

The military said the training was to “prepare for the enemy’s abrupt provocation,” and that the exercise had been open to the public to “alleviate local residents’ anxiety over the current security situation.”
