An organization linked to North Korea’s ruling party said members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), including China and Russia, should “pay dearly” for passing a fresh resolution, in a statement carried by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Tuesday.
The 15 council members on Saturday unanimously voted to impose a new resolution on North Korea which is estimated to cut the country’s export revenues by USD$1 billion.
KCNA said U.S. President Donald Trump had “extended thanks to China and Russia for cooperation in adopting the resolution,” quoting a spokesperson for the Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee (KAPPC) and referring to a statement issued on Saturday by the White House.
The statement described the countries that supported the measures as being “scared by the U.S. threat of sanctions,” pledging “physical action” and a “substantial action of justice” by the North Korean military and people.
“The countries – which even received thanks from Trump and caught a fancy of their master – should feel shame before the conscience of the world,” according to the Korean language statement issued by the spokesperson for the KAPPC.
“[They] also should reflect deeply on the committed crime at the history and mankind’s stern court and pay dearly for them.”
The spokesperson also criticized Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for “overly chatting” about the new resolution.
“The countries – which doesn’t live up to their dignity – made a clumsy excuse that the sanction is necessary but the ultimate goal is to solve a problem through a negotiation as they may not be comfortable [due to their mistake],” the KAPPC spokesperson said in Korean language comments quoted by the KCNA.
Meanwhile, Pyongyang also denounced the Moon Jae-in administration for “letting out impudent remarks” over new sanctions, in a statement issued by a spokesperson for the Consultative Council for National Reconciliation (CCNR) on Monday.
“It had better face up to the acute situation that the group of crazy Trump is crying out for not “ruling out a war”, and think twice about the catastrophic calamity to be entailed by it,” the spokesperson said.
The North also warned the South that inter-Korean talks would not take place if Seoul continued to “let out impudent and reckless remarks against the trend of the times.”
“It should not forget that it will completely lose the opportunity for dealing with the DPRK and everything will end at once if it persistently resorts to stupid and reckless acts.”
