South Korean President Moon Jae-in said on Monday he is “confident” that the U.S. will respond “calmly and responsibly” to the ongoing situation on the Korean peninsula.

A Blue House spokesperson said Moon, speaking with his cabinet, insisted that the U.S. stance was “not different” from South Korea’s and that the North Korean nuclear issue “should be resolved in a peaceful way.”

“The ROK – U.S. alliance is an alliance to keep the peace,” Moon said. “I am confident that the U.S. will respond calmly and responsibly to the current situation with the same stance that we have.”
