Japan agrees to ramp up defense commitments on North Korea

The agreement comes during a security meeting between Japan and the U.S. in Washington

The U.S. and Japan on Thursday agreed to ramp up their defense commitments to counter the threat from North Korea, during the U.S.-Japan Security Consultative Committee held in Washington.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Defense Secretary James Mattis met Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono and the country's new Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera at the State Department to discuss the alliance between the two countries.
