South Korea, the U.S. and Japan issued a joint statement vowing to work closely to denuclearize North Korea and condemning the DPRK’s recent test of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Friday, calling it a “major escalation.”

The statement issued by the White House followed a trilateral meeting between the countries’ leaders on Thursday, at the G20 meeting in Hamburg, Germany.

“The three leaders condemned the DPRK’s unprecedented launch, on July 4, of a ballistic missile with intercontinental range, a major escalation that directly violates multiple United Nation’s Security Council (UNSC) resolutions,” the statement reads.
