The UN Security Council (UNSC) unanimously adopted a new North Korea resolution on Friday, with both China and Russia voting in favor of the restrictions put forward by Washington.

Unlike previous resolutions targeting the North’s weapons programs, the new UN measures were not preceded by a large-scale provocation, satellite launch, or nuclear test.

But the U.S. led measures follow a period of near weekly missile tests from the DPRK and a military parade where North Korea showcased several new weapon systems.
