North Korean researchers have developed a computer-based system to create artificial rain through the use of rockets, state-run outlet Arirang-Meari reported on Wednesday.

The technique, known as cloud seeding, is a form of weather modification and is frequently used by countries such as China and the U.S. to ease droughts.

Rockets and artillery loaded with chemicals such as silver iodide or dry ice are fired into clouds to induce rain, but aircraft can also be used.
