UN Security Council condemns North Korea for recent missile test

Statement from council almost identical to condemnation published in 2016

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has unanimously condemned North Korea for its test launch of an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) on February 12, a statement from the body read on Monday.

An emergency meeting of the UNSC was called by the U.S., Japan, and South Korea following Sunday’s launch.

“The members of the Security Council strongly condemn the most recent ballistic missile launches conducted by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on 11 February 2017 and 19 October 2016,” the statement read.

It went on to say that the launches are in violation of several UNSC resolutions
