North Korea appears to be sending peaceful overtures towards the next South Korean administration in the new year, multiple articles in state media published up until Wednesday suggest.

Having printed over 35 articles on the importance of peace-building efforts in 2017, the target of the messages was clearly the next South Korean government, a researcher said.

“Should the anti-Unification policies that have intensified the distrust and confrontation between the two continue in the South, then the current collapse of inter-Korean relations may never be recovered,” Workers’ Party organ Rodong Sinmun said on Wednesday.
