North Korea has conducted an unsuccessful launch of a ballistic missile near its northwestern coast on Saturday morning at around 3:30 Korean Standard Time (KST), according to the U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM).

The unsuccessful attempt was detected to have occurred near the city of Kusong, which lies under 60 kilometers from the Chinese border.

“The missile is presumed to be a Musadan intermediate-range ballistic missile,” a STRATCOM alert read on Saturday.

“The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) determined the missile launch from North Korea did not pose a threat to North America,” it added.
