No need to redeploy tactical nukes to S.Korea, insists U.S. chief nuclear envoy

Despite calls from politicians, the U.S. won't return nukes to the peninsula

The U.S. chief nuclear envoy Sung Kim on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of redeploying tactical nuclear weapons to the Korean peninsula.

“We have the great deal of confidence that we have the capabilities to defend against the threats posed by North Korea, and of course that includes our ‘extended deterrence’ commitment to the Republic of Korea,” the U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Policy told reporters during a joint news conference.
