UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed concern over recent tension on the Korean Peninsula on Wednesday, saying that current levels were unprecedented.

The UN chief made the remarks at a news conference before the UN General Assembly in New York, adding that he hoped the UN Security Council (UNSC) would act to prevent further provocative action from the DPRK

“The level of tension on the Korean peninsula has gone much, much higher … Never in the past I have seen such kind of heightened tension on the Korean Peninsula,” Ban said in comments carried by South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency.
