Six South Korean opposition lawmakers left for Beijing on Monday to discuss the deployment of the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system.

A day before the departure, the South Korean President’s office urged the lawmakers to revise their visit over concerns that China might use their visit for its own political goals.

“Our visit is aimed at providing help in resolving the diplomatic cool-off period between China and South Korea,” Kim Young-ho, a lawmaker from the opposition Minjoo Party said, Asiae reported.

“We will return from China and do our best to provide the necessary help for the government.”
