A North Korean diplomat has been asked to leave Bangladesh for importing goods in breach of local customs laws, according to Bangladeshi media outlets.

Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reportedly asked first secretary Han Son Ik to leave by Monday.

The country’s customs agency found the North Korean embassy imported over 8000 cartons of cigarettes and electronics worth nearly $450,000 into the country.

“The customs wing has sought intervention of the foreign ministry following three major incidents related to customs-law violation by diplomats of North Korea,” a customs official told the local media out The Financial Express.
