Seoul’s defense minister reiterated the necessity for THAAD in South Korea during an interview after his speech at the Shangri-La dialogue in Singapore, despite objections from China.

Defense Minister Han Min-koo didn’t mention THAAD deployment during his speech on Saturday, but said that South Korea “undoubtedly has the intent to deploy THAAD,” during the Q&A session.

U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter last Thursday said THAAD could be discussed during the talks with his counterpart Han on Saturday. The South Korean Ministry of National Defense (MND), however, distributed text messages to journalists denying the remark.

“South Korea only has the capacity
