South Korea’s navy on Thursday launched its most advanced frigate, capable of launching ground strikes on targets in North Korea.

The 2,800-ton Daegu was launched from the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering shipyard on Geoje Island. The ship is part of the ROK Navy’s Future Frigate eXperimental (FFX) II program, which will see six to nine additional vessels built in the coming years, the Diplomat reports.

“It will be the most advanced frigate in the ROK Navy undoubtedly and among the most advanced vessels in the fleet,” NK News director of intelligence John Grisafi said.
