North Korea offers to host unification celebration

Seoul dismisses Pyongyang's letter, calling it a 'loyalty competition' since conclusion of Congress

Pyongyang on Friday made another call for dialogue with Seoul, urging that it be allowed to organize a large gathering on the 71st anniversary of Korea’s liberation in August, three weeks after suggesting military talks in mid-May.

The “letter of plea” published by the Rodong Sinmun emphasized unification through the federal system that the two Koreas agreed upon during the summit between the former South Korean President Kim Dae-jung and the late North Korean leader Kim Jong Il in 2000.
