A North Korean official hit at Donald Trump’s idea of U.S. allies in Northeast Asia potentially acquiring nuclear weapons, calling it “totally absurd and illogical” in remarks carried by CNN report on Sunday.

Ri Jong Ryul, the deputy-director general of the state-run Institute of International Studies think tank, also criticized international society’s criteria for nuclear weapons possession.

“The U.S. tells us to give up our nuclear program, is preparing a nuclear attack against us, and on the other hand would tell its allies to have nuclear weapons. Isn’t this (a) double standard?” Ri told CNN in Pyongyang.
