N.Korea responds to sanctions with ‘self-sustainability’

North Korean media writes ‘self-sustainability’ more than 150 times in one daily paper

North Korea responded to new U.S. sanctions by peppering Tuesday’s edition of the state-run newspaper with over 150 references to “self-sustainability.”

The North began using the term jagangryeok (self-sustainability) shortly after Kim Jong Un first mentioned it in his New Years Address. But the frequency of the term in today’s Rodong Shinmun is unprecedented.

“No matter what sanctions the American imperialists and their supporters choose, no matter the hundreds of pages of sanctions that are to be written, no one can stop the future of the people who seek as one to achieve prosperity through strength,” an article published today reads.
