S.Korean National Assembly researchers propose more engagement

Report warns of aging population of N. Korea, while highlighting maternal, child health care

Seoul’s National Assembly Budget Office has proposed more economic engagement to prepare for unification, in a report entitled “Unification costs and implications according to the level of inter-Korean cooperation.”

The department told NK News that it this a part of the legislative body’s unification preparations, and has no political motivations.

Assuming unification by 2025, 10 years from now, the report set up three measures: status-quo, expanding humanitarian support and comprehensive cooperation including social overhead capital. It concluded that overall cooperation can save 2.5 quadrillion won (about $2.12 trillion).

“To follow the third route, we should proceed with solving the political and military tension.
