Seoul’s Unification Preparation Council, an organization under direct presidential control, discussed how to promote domestic industry and marketization in North Korea during a meeting Thursday at the Blue House.

The meeting was attended by President Park Geun-hye, who chairs the organization, as well as Minister of Unification Hong Yong-pyo and Jeong Jong-wook, who serve as the council’s vice chiefs. Media coverage was not permitted.

Four council departments presented: diplomacy and security, law and politics, society and culture, and economy. The head of the economic department reported on ways to vitalize marketization trends in North Korea.
