North Korean news outlet Uriminzokkiri on Monday denied involvement in a recent South Korean civil movement against government-issued textbooks.

Last Thursday, Won Yoo-chul of the ruling Saenuri Party said that North Korean intelligence agencies had allegedly “sent directives to South Korean citizens to stand against the publication of government-issued history textbook.”

As NK News reported last week, a South Korean newspaper also wrote that the North had issued a directive to spur opposition to the new textbook.

Much of the South Korean media strongly opposed this claim, calling it “anti-red propaganda” to suppress public opinion against the publication of government-issued history textbooks.
