News Incheon city invites N. Korean scholars to island conferenceLocal governments seek specialized cooperation projects amid inter-Korean freeze
The government of Incheon, South Korea has invited North Korean scholars to participate in an academic conference next year about Ganghwa Island. Ganghwa Island is historically significant for a number of reasons. For one, it is where the Koryo Dynasty (918-1392) was temporarily based during a Mongol invasion. The city of Incheon is planning the conference for next year, the 140th year since the Japan-Korea Treaty of 1876, Korea’s first international treaty, signed under Japanese military threat on the island itself. The conference is also expected to include Chinese and Japanese scholars’ perspectives on the treaty, © Korea Risk Group. All rights reserved. |
