Experts debate investment in N. Korea as a unification tool

Long-time S. Korea analysts see plan for gradual unification as best, but remain split over economic prospects

Experts discussed unification strategy, debating the merits of investing in the North and prospects for the regime’s economic growth at an event in Seoul on Wednesday.

Entitled "National Strategy 2030: Unification, Diplomacy, Security,” the event was organized by the Sejong Institute. At it, experts suggested possible routes of transition in North Korea with economic development and political stability as a condition for future unification. They commonly supported gradual unification, in cooperation with international society's investment into the North’s infrastructure.
