North Korea’s foreign news service Uriminzokkiri targeted South Korean Yonhap News Agency newscaster Kim Jung with a string of harsh, sexist invective and insults late on Thursday.

This is not the first time North Korea has targeted South Korean women using degrading, gender-specific language in its national media. In May 2014 North Korean state media called South Korean President Park Geun-hye an “old prostitute,” while also labeling U.S. President Obama a “wicked black monkey.”

Friday’s remarks were unusual given their target. While South Korean politicians are frequently on the receiving end of the DPRK’s offensive language, celebrities or news media are not
