News Ministry of Unification reforms financial assistance model for N. KoreaMOU overhauls way it will release Inter-Korean Cooperation Fund allocations
Seoul’s Ministry of Unification (MOU) said Monday it would reform the way Inter-Korean Cooperation Fund allocations would be made, in order to support a greater diversity of projects inside North Korea. The fund, which was established in 1990, is designed to promote inter-Korean exchange in the fields of culture, academia, sports, the economy and trade. But until now support from the fund has mainly been implemented through emergency assistance initiatives, rather than projects which could help benefit the DPRK’s broader development. “It is being reformed according to the change of time. (From now) it will be implemented according to projects, and relief goods will be provided in the projects,” Jeong Joon-hee, a © Korea Risk Group. All rights reserved. |
