N. Korea boycotts sporting event due to new UN office

New office will investigate the DPRK's human rights record "cooled down" N. Korean enthusiasm

North Korea has pulled out of the Gwangju Universiade games due to the opening of the UN’s new human rights office in Seoul, according to an email sent to the event’s organizing committee on Friday.

The letter was sent by Jon Kuk Man, chairman of North Korea’s  University Sports Association, who blamed the opening of the new office for “cooling down” the DPRK’s enthusiasm in the event.
