There are now more than 700 solar panels in the North Korean city of Kaesong, the Director of the Kaesong City Telecommunication and Information Administration told DPRK media in a video released Tuesday.

Speaking to Korean Central Television (KCTV), Dong Chul Nam said the city was looking to renewables to relieve ongoing power shortages.

“We covered our office building with solar panels on one side, the roof top and even on unused spaces … We have installed over 700 solar panels at over 27 locations,” Dong said.

The broadcast follows an article published last week by the Korean Central News
