Human rights group to petition UN over North Koreans’ overseas labor

Activist argues North Korean overseas labor comparable to contemporary slavery

A North Korea human rights group will petition the UN against North Korea for forcing people to work abroad under unacceptable human rights conditions, the group announced.

"While there has been progress regarding human rights violations in North Korea, including the UN Commissions of Inquiry report on the issue and the UN resolution, the overseas labor issue has been relatively neglected," Ahn Myeong-chul, director of the activist group NK Watch said in the press conference at the Korea Press Center on Thursday.
