North Korea cancels Taekwon-do events due to Ebola measures

Quarantine measures and tourist ban likely to continue longer than expected

North Korea has canceled two Taekwon-do events, including one scheduled as late as August, due to ongoing Ebola quarantine measures in the country, Voice of America (VOA) reported Wednesday.

The International Taekwon-do Federation (ITF) said that both the 60th anniversary ceremony on April 11 and the 19th ITF World Championship on August 24 would be scrapped, according to the report.

Kim Kyong Ho, the president of Korean Taekwon-do Committee said in a letter to the ITF president that the decision was made “due to the quarantine measures in our country taken to prevent Ebola which is recently spreading worldwide”.
