Push for North Korean human rights to be placed on UNSC agenda

Request for discussions accepted, cannot be vetoed by permanent members

A request to have North Korea’s human rights situation placed on the UN Security Council (UNSC) agenda was made on Friday following a letter signed by two-thirds of the Council's members.

The letter, which was drafted by Australia, requested that the issue be placed on the UNSC agenda and that a formal meeting for discussions be scheduled in December.
