Though speaking from separate venues, both China’s president and assistant foreign minister stated on Wednesday that the Six-Party Talks on North Korea’s denuclearization should resume.

The statement by Chinese President Xi Jinping came during a meeting in Beijing with Rep. Kim Moo-sung, chairman of South Korea’s ruling Saenuri Party.

Kim said after the meeting that Xi had told him that the Six-Party Talks, dormant since the North withdrew from the format in 2009, were the best means for promoting peace on the Korean Peninsula.

“The Korean Peninsula issue cannot be resolved alone,” he reportedly told Kim.
