Seoul to provide $3 million in aid to North

Aid package comes despite recent provocative weapons tests near inter-Korean border

South Korea will provide the North with nearly $3 million in humanitarian aid, the Ministry of Unification said Tuesday.

The South will, for the first time since sanctioning the North in 2010, use the aid to assist North Korean NGOs working in sectors believed to directly benefit the North Korean people. The 3 billion won- (a little more than $2.9 million-) package would allocate 1 billion won to constructing greenhouses, another billion for pediatric clinics and the rest to the dairy industry, the Yonhap News Agency reported.
